Help needed from experienced travellers

We are booked on a cruise out of San Diego on Sat 4th April. If we went to a show at Primm on the Friday night would we be able to get to San Diego by say 10am on the Saturday if we left Primm at 4.30am? Is the traffic normally heavy on Saturdays? How long should this drive take? If there was a major traffic disruption are there many other roads to go on that would not impact too heavily on the time factor? I believe that the quickest route is to LA and then San Diego Thanks, Bruce, Australia

I think you%26#39;re cutting it too close. A conservative estimate (not including any traffic delays or misdirections) would be 3 hours to LA then 2 hours to San Diego.

I haven%26#39;t driven that route in a long time but I believe that even though there are several north/south freeways running through LA, you ultimately have to get on I-5 to reach San Diego.

Most cruises don%26#39;t leave at 10 am - they barely have the people off from the previous cruise by then. You%26#39;ll just sit around waiting for them to start your embarkation. The better question is what time is your cruise departure? I%26#39;m guessing 5-6 pm, so you have a lot more time than you think, barring something unforeseen.

Cruise departure times are something I never like to chance. Personally, I try to spend the night before a cruise near the Cruise Ship port. Too many things could go wrong between Primm and San Diego to chance it - flat tire, highway closure, or some other freak act of nature. Realistically, you%26#39;ll probably be fine, but since cruise ships give you little leeway to be late, I don%26#39;t like to chance it.

LA traffic can be quite packed depending upon the time. Afternoon on the weekends the traffic picks up but is nothing like rush hour. (what rush, you can walk faster)

I have found usefull to double the time to travel to large cities as it can be rather confusing getting around. If you know the actual time the ship departs then figure out if you will have enough time for travel.
