....gonna be in LV 2/16-2/20 (need the R%26amp;R) and got a Frommer%26#39;s guide book from the local library to do some research. One part of the book says that Las Vegas recently changed the open container law to make carrying alcoholic bevereges on the street illegal. Is this true? Everyone has always carried beer and cocktails while walking the strip in previous trips. Any help is appreciated.
Walking and drinking on the strip.....
As far as I know it is illegal but so many people do it so unless you are causing trouble you will be okay.
Walking and drinking on the strip.....
It has always been illegal but not enforced. The law is used with prejudice to remove vagrants and troublemakers.
I was there a month ago and nothing had changed and there was no mention of a new law taking effect.
I wonder if the book was stating that it is illegal to drink alcoholic beverages on the streets when off the strip because as far as I know you can only do this Downtown on Fremont and on the strip.
From thee opencontainer.com website:
';Las Vegas, Nevada allows public drinking during certain parts of the year while the Las Vegas Strip has no restriction other than the container must be plastic';
I saw on the travel channel when they were showing Vegas a cop was talking about open containers and he said it was no problem with plastic cup but they were really cracking down on having them while driving. Also said they wouldn%26#39;t bother you with open containers as long as you were not acting up.
*sigh* I don%26#39;t know why people insist on spreading misinformation on this simple question.
It is legal (and has been for quite some time) to drink from an open container on the Strip and downtown. There are exceptions - you cannot stand around drinking in a parking lot or in front of a liquor store. Nor can you take that open container in a car. Furthermore, if you are visibly intoxicated and behaving like an asshat, the police can arrest you for being drunk and disorderly.
Thanks Stratton.
We always walk around with a big slushy drink, or a bottle of beer, and have never been spoken to or anything. Seems to be the norm on the strip. We even took our slushy drinks on the monorail, and no one said a thing to us, except a few people that asked where we got them from (because they were jealous, it was hot).
You see people walking around drinking Yard Margaritas all the time. It%26#39;s almost required during the summer to make it to the next block. :)
Me and my husband always get a nice cold drink and walk the Strip. We always say to each other ';I can%26#39;t wait to be walking down the Strip with a drink in hand!';
Here is a link with answers to many questions. I hope this helps.
