Casino help...

I would like some ideas on casinos -- i go with a farily large group and we have all types -- those who want $5 tables and those who don%26#39;t mind higher limit. To get some better priced tables last year we went to Orleans and Stratosphere. I have heard that Red Rock might be good but its pretty far out? Any ideas of other places we should try kinda off strip? Thanks!

Casino help...

I%26#39;d try downtown. You have lower limit tables and the ability to get to the higher limit ones. Also there quite a few casinos within a short walking distance.

Casino help...

Sam%26#39;s Town, Eastside Cannery, Boulder Station and Arizona Charlies on Boulder Highway.

Gold Coast has friendly dealers and is pretty clean. I like it there.

Terribles would be a great one and not very far off the strip. You can take the 202 Deuce from the side of Ballys on Flamingo and that bus will take you right to Terribles.

You might want to consider Southpoint. They have ample $5.00 tables. The casino is on Las Vegas Blvd. but about 3 miles south of Mandalay Bay.

mbac

Thanks for all the good ideas... will definately try some of those out!

My advice... Go downtown to Fremont Street. High and Low tables, should make everyone happy. If you don%26#39;t get a good ';vibe'; where you are, just walk across the street to the next casino, instead of a half-mile! I played $3 craps tables, even though I never bet the minimum! It just felt good to have the option of the lower limit tables! Let us know how you do!

I also think downtown is your best bet. Gold Coast is also an alternative since they have a shuttle (near Bill%26#39;s).

I would only go to RRS if I had a car. Same with Southpoint.

My only concern about downtown is we tried that last year and it was so unbelieveably crowded that people had a hard time finding open tables... we stayed a while and left.. maybe we should give it another try. Thanks again.

    Hello

Coming to Vegas April 17-28 for 1st time. I will be staying 6 nights at Strat and 5 nights NYNY.

Can people please provide opinion on the Las Vegas Entertainment Book.

Based on where i am staying and the length i am staying for would there be much point in getting one. Are the discounts worth it (Cost me about $50 inc postage to have one shipped to Australia)

    Thanks

Is Death Vally worth the drive ??

Hello just wanted some feed back,

we are gonna be in vegas for 5 day%26#39;s and im planning day trip%26#39;s.

we have done a lot of the local trips around vegas,

and i was thinking about Death Vally this time.

I like to drive but if this place looks just like what i can see out the Hotel window.. etc..i dont think i will waste my time.

    thanks

    t69

Is Death Vally worth the drive ??

Dependson the person. But I love Death Valley.

Is Death Vally worth the drive ??

I agree, it depends on the person. Me, I love the scenery and sights there, and no, it%26#39;s not quite like the desert around Las Vegas ;-)

    Hi

We went on a day trip and liked it, so the next time we were touring we went back and stayed overnight so we could see more. The Devil%26#39;s golf course is pretty cool, you won%26#39;t see that every day of the week. It%26#39;s a large area of salt formations.

    Clive

Tripper, thanks for asking! I as well was curious about the Death Valley trip :)

Will be doing it as well as I have heard GREAT things

I love Death Valley. When are you going? It can be 25 degrees hotter there than in Vegas, so from late spring to early fall it can really be brutal.

we wiil be going next tuesday i think..

Me, well, I%26#39;m dying to go.

It%26#39;s your life and your trip, so if you%26#39;re interested in seeing Death Valley (and you must be at least somewhat interested if you%26#39;re inquiring), then the trip will be worthwhile. If you go, let us know what you think.

Just don%26#39;t do it in the SUMMER . .

    MGM Offer to Beau Rivage

Is anyone going on the MGM offer to the Beau Rivage resort in Biloxi 1/30 - 2/2?

    MGM Offer to Beau Rivage

I thought about going, but rather save my money for vegas.. oh well!

    MGM Offer to Beau Rivage

Seems like a really good deal, Airfare and 3 nights hotel comped...Short trip to New Orleans

How did you get/find this offer?

In the mail from MGM about two weeks ago..I don%26#39;t even play that much at MGM...More Harrahs

For the NC Poster: The Beau Rivage offer (airfare from your home airport and rooms) was also listed on the www.playersclub.com site for MGM-Mirage. There are 3 trips scheduled out of Charlotte, NC, one in January (already passed), and 2 in February.

Its easy to check your offers, just enter your players account number and establish a pin #.

We thought about going in February, but Vegas and Nascar won out. I hope offers continue, would really like to experience Beau Rivage, hear its very nice, and the Hard Rock Casino/Hotel is right next door within walking distance.

    walking from

we will be staying at the Summer Bay Resort off Koval ln. It looks like on the map that is is close to the IP. Anyone that has stayed there recently what the walk there is like (how long it takes etc). I have heard you can come through the garage of the IP and through Casino and to the strip. We do have a car but trying not to drive all the time. thanks for your help.

    walking from

It%26#39;s looks like its just on the other side of Koval, and that%26#39;s not a long walk. I haven%26#39;t done that walk, but my guess would be it would be 5 or 10 minutes tops to get to the back end of IP/Harrahs.

Have a look at THEmap, as it shows how the hotels are situated and how far back they go.

    http://vegastodayandtomorrow.com/condomap.htm

You could always call Summer Bay and ask them how long it takes to walk to the Strip.

    walking from

I%26#39;ve walked from Ellis island to the strip and it takes about 5 to 10 minutes, and it looks about the same on the map.

LOL to both BA and Hitch.

I was wondering how Steve would have put together a letter to the Pope. ';Dear Sir, I would humbly ask if I may take down your church and put in a parking lot';.

2b, he would probably include something on free play , a free spin or two for the buffet, and a sacred red card. Maybe even have a papal themed slot machine created for the occasion. Oh the possiblities are endless.

    Bellagio,Venetian or MGM Signature?

This will be our 1st trip to Vegas to celebrate my husband%26#39;s 50th birthday! Looking for a ';knock your socks off'; hotel room (luxurious %26amp; great view) Opinions greatly appreciated.

    Bellagio,Venetian or MGM Signature?

I don%26#39;t think you can go wrong with any of the three!

Tough choice so I%26#39;ll defer to others on this one.

    Bellagio,Venetian or MGM Signature?

Many will say the rooms are better @ the Venetian and MGM Signature, but I just don%26#39;t believe you can beat the ';knock your socks off'; view from the Bellagio Lakeview room for your first visit.

For view, Bellagio easily kick the other two hotels%26#39; tails. I mean, the lake is right there! And the rooms arent bad either. As for most lux, it can be a tough one..Sig rooms have a kitchen, if that matters. But since it is your first visit, I would stick with the Italian resorts on your list( Bellagio and Venetian. Palazzo is good 2) . Have fun

    Bellagio.

Great rooms (lake view is a must)

    Best Views (Lake View)

Other two are fine choices and rooms may be a bit newer, but the Overall Ambience of the Bellagio hotel is a step above the rest. IMHO

You do not want to stay at the MGM Signature on your first trip to Vegas. It%26#39;s too far removed from all the things you%26#39;ll want to see and do.

  • Had To Change Holiday

Just got off the phone with virgin, having changed our holiday to VEGAS, was booked for DUBAI. Was last in VEGAS in June 08 and having booked Vegas for 2 weeks in july 09 I thought we would have a change. DUBAI sounded good a bit of the in place at the moment, but with buffets and brunches at $290 per person what was i thinking about not to mention the drinks, $15 average. Oh yes and you cant get a drink out side the hotels. SO thank you Virgin for letting us change at no extra cost and we are back in our fave destination (thank god) I`ll be walking down the strip with a beer and enjoying great food at decent prices, and maybe winning. VEGAS what a place 3 times a year is not enough

    Had To Change Holiday

Way to go with the change, and I don%26#39;t think 3 times in one year is too much ;)

    Had To Change Holiday

Glad everything worked out to your liking. Three times a year is fine if that is what you want. Have fun!

Wherever you fancy going :- ) (but they do fly to Barbados too you know)

Dubai does have its drawbacks, lack of alcohol, sent to jail for having sex on the beach (joke, honestly ;- ) )

At those prices I%26#39;d probably starve too!!!

How do you change a holiday? I thought most of them fall on set days of the week, like Mondays?

  • 5 day road trip from vegas

we are going to vegas in sept and have a car for 5 days and want a bit of a road trip.

really want to see death valley..............

any ideas of what to do and how long to spend in places

    thanks

5 day road trip from vegas

Hi I hope you have some days planned in Vegas too!

I can%26#39;t give you any information because I haven%26#39;t made it to Death Valley myself, but I have seen a lot of great sights on road trips myself, where Las Vegas was part of a road trip from Washington State toward Utah, Arizon, Nevada, and California.

My suggestion would be (if you didn%26#39;t do Death Valley) to head to Bryce and Zion Canyons, and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, and possibly Valley of Fire State Park. That might be too much.

You could leave Vegas, head to Bryce Canyon

http://www.nps.gov/brca/ and plan to stay at Ruby%26#39;s Inn or perhaps camp in a teepee. I thought it was fun to hike around the Hoodoos, and take pictures, and see the viewpoints as you go. We took a horsetrip organized through Ruby%26#39;s which is actually at Red Canyon. Then, when you leave there (spend maybe two days, including travel time) and then head to Zion. You could spend either one full day there or two days. You could stay in Sprindale http://www.nps.gov/zion/ It is totally different than Bryce. You could use mapquest.com to get driving directions for each place and for help with how long the travel would take.

Next you could either head to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, see it and maybe do a hike or two although to me, the Canyon is just nice to look at. They have some lounge chairs out on a deck for that purpose. Then head back to Vegas. Depending on timing, or if you decide against one of the canyons, you might really like Valley of Fire State Park on the way back to Vegas. http://www.parks.nv.gov/

Hopefully this gives you some ideas if you decide not to do Death Valley, or maybe someone else has some good advice for you as well.

5 day road trip from vegas

I took a 5 day trip once with my wife and son. We went to the Meteor spot in Arizona, Sky City in New Mexico, up to the stone bridges, into Mexican Hat in Utah, down thru Monument Valley into Mesquite NV. Saw Lake Powell along the way and other impressive areas. Loved it! Also saw Bryce and Zion.

or you could go death valley then up to the sierra nevada mountains great drive very scenic and what the heck if you go that way may as well go to what i think is one of the best places on earth...lake tahoe

I was told to do Hoover Dam, Lake Mead and Valley of Fire for a nice day trip from Vegas :)

2 adults and 2 children in 1 room

looking to book 7 nights at the mgm in august will i be charged a suplement ontop of the room rate for my 2 children

2 adults and 2 children in 1 room

    Hi

Yes, I%26#39;m sure they charge unless they are very young. I think it%26#39;s about $30pppn. If you look on the website it will give you the details.

    Clive

2 adults and 2 children in 1 room

Yes,it is $30.00 extra regardless of the age. I was looking into the same thing and was on the phone with them yesterday.

The only hotel that I found that does not charge the extra per person rate for children under 12 was the

    Excalibur

Sometimes, if you call and ask nicely, they might waive the additional charge. It%26#39;s worth a phone call.

Did you try a place like the Desert Rose where their 1 bedroom has a pull-out couch? It is slightly off strip but it comes with a continental breakfast. It is located behind Hooters, not far from the MGM.

I haven%26#39;t tried this hotel. I just thought you might give it some thought since I doubt they would charge extra for your 2 children.

The $30.00 extra per person charge is in place to stop adults from putting to many people in 1 room. I am quite sure you will find that if the kids are 12 and under you will not be charged. I know this is the policy at Wynn, Mandalay Bay and Bellagio.

    Here is what they state:

Room Categories and Descriptions - MGM Grand

Room amenities include air conditioning, cable TV, alarm clock, hairdryer, iron/ironing board, high-speed Internet access, in-room safe.

Children Policy: Children 12 and under stay free of charge, when sharing room with 2 paying adults, using existing bedding.

Bungalow King Suite - Oversized bedroom connected to an extended living area with one king bed, couch, chair, coffee table, wet bar %26amp; refrigerator. Bathroom features Italian marble, dual vanity, a tub/shower and a separate shower. Sleeps maximum two guests.

Bungalow Suite - Oversized bedroom with two queen beds, connected to an extended living area with couch, chair, coffee table, wet bar %26amp; refrigerator. Bathroom features Italian marble, dual vanity, a tub/shower plus a separate shower. Sleeps maximum four guests.

Celebrity Spa Suite - One king bed (roll-away bed available at additional charge, extended living room area including chair, plush couch, coffee table, wet bar, mini-fridge, dining table, Italian marble spa tub, separate shower, dual sink and vanity. Maximum 2 guests in suite.

I punched in some random dates, and said I had children under 12 and the price was the same as if I said no children, they do NOT charge if under 12. Looks like over 12 is considered adult, they will charge for teens.

thanks for your help all my children are 12 and 6 so i may get away with it did stay at mgm 2 years ago with the children and there was no extra charge then

    New to Vegas!

My boyfriend and I will be going to Vegas on the 23rd and staying until the 26th. His birthday is on Saturday and I am at a loss on what to do special for his birthday there! I am 25 and he is 31 if that helps any... I really have no idea what I%26#39;m going to do so any input will be greatly appreciated!!

    New to Vegas!

I would say it depends on what he likes to do...

What are his interests (besides you of course)?

    New to Vegas!

He is very easy going and I%26#39;m sure he%26#39;ll enjoy anything but here are a few things I%26#39;ve heard recently.. helicopter ride either to the canyon or over the strip at night.. I would like to do something different like that for him that we can%26#39;t do back here in PA (Which is pretty much anything!)

If you want to take him to a great dinner, there is the Eiffel Tower Restaurant with a spectacular view of the strip %26amp; Bellagio fountains. Nero%26#39;s for excellent Steaks %26amp; Seafood that%26#39;s so good that it feels like it melts in your mouth with superior service. Have lunch at Margaritaville at Flamingo great place to grab a drink %26amp; a bite to eat. Harrah%26#39;s Carnaval Court a good place to hang out in the PM, great music %26amp; drinks.

Promo Codes Bills Gambling Hall / Flamingo Pool

    Hi

Does anyone have any promo codes for Bills Gambling Hall? I am planning on staying there 25th March - 7th April 09.

Also I understand that you use the FLamingo hotel pool, any one know what this is like?

    Thanks

Promo Codes Bills Gambling Hall / Flamingo Pool

Well, normally their website has pretty good deals for rooms, so you may already have a good deal. I suggest just booking then checking back every few days to see if the prices have dropped. If they have, call them to make the change to the lower rate. They will honor it. Also, every once in awhile you could look at Smartervegas.com to see if Bill%26#39;s has a promo code.

Yes,you can use the Flamingo Pool if you are staying at Bills. You might have to show your Bill%26#39;s key as you enter the pool area. What I would suggest if that you put on your pool attire and whatever you wear over your swim attire and make the walk right out the door that leads directly to Flamingo, and then turn right, and head toward the pool entrance.

Are you wondering what the pools are Flamingo are like, or what it is like to use it when staying at Bill%26#39;s? I can tell you that the pools are really nice at Flamingo. They have more than one, but the main one has a waterfall/cave area and lots of plushness and greenery. On your way to the pools or on your way back you can go through their wildlife habititat. They have really good (but costly, like at all vegas pools) poolside drinks. I think at a certain time of day they have two for one frozen drink....probably from 4pm-6pm.

    Have fun!

Promo Codes Bills Gambling Hall / Flamingo Pool

WOW!!!!!!!! 14 days in vegas....how long do you save up for a trip this long???????????

You can go to Bill%26#39;s website directly %26amp; check out rates www.BillsLasVegas.com or you can check out Flamingo Hot Deals www.harrahs.com on their websites for Hot Deals %26amp; as the above poster said if you see the rate drop just call them %26amp; they%26#39;ll give you the lower rate that you found.

For Flamingo Hot Deals on top click on LV then Hotel Hot Deals, hope you find what you are looking for.

Flamingo has the better pool on the strip, 4 large pool with waterfall, 1 adult pool, whirlpool, the setting is tropical, very lovely. You can check it out on the website as well just click on pool.

  • Aussies Hiring A Car - What is Loss Damage Waiver Charge?

    Hi all,

I have got a quote from major car hire firms to hire a car for 2 weeks from Vegas and drop off LA. It seems very cheap at US$412 for a Dodge Charger. However this does not include the Loss Damage Waiver charge which adds an extra US$310 to the cost.

Any other Aussies out there who understand car hire in the US? Doesn%26#39;t our travel insurance cover us so we don%26#39;t have to take out this insurance. Am I better to go through traveljigsaw which is in AUD and includes these so call %26#39;insurances%26#39; although it seems dearer.

    What do you all recommend?

    Thanks

    Ally

Aussies Hiring A Car - What is Loss Damage Waiver Charge?

LDW is pretty much essential. It%26#39;s a potential disaster if you have an accident and don%26#39;t have it.

I can%26#39;t speak specifically for Aussies but I know that generally speaking it%26#39;s cheaper for overseas visitors to book and pay in advance for car rental (including LDW) using a company based in their own country. I%26#39;m sure Aussie posters will give good advice about companies.

Regular travel/trip insurance won%26#39;t normally include insurance required for car rentals.

Aussies Hiring A Car - What is Loss Damage Waiver Charge?

loss damage waiver basically covers you in an accident for the damage to the other car. if you hit another car you can be up for damage to the car and the other person.

it is like ctp (compulsory third party) here allyman.

i would thoroughly check your travel insurance as i dont think many would include this.

We paid the extra for the LDW charge as we didn%26#39;t want to take any chances as we found the insurance cover a little hard to understand too. We found National pretty good and their online quote system fairly user friendly. On the two occasions we hired a car, we never actually got the car we wanted though.

    Hi Ally,

We are also doing the same thing. Picking up in LV and dropping off in LAX. We have booked with Autoeurope.com.au They give an all inclusive rate with all insurances and taxes no drop off fee. We have used them before. Kemwell.com.au also offers good rates with no drop off fees with these rates.

They link up to a number of hire companies and find the best rates of the day.

I did a quick search and a 14 day rate starts off at $723AUD for 14 days all inclusive.

I hope you have a great trip. We will be there in March.

    Cheers

    Belv

Wow, thanks folks. This site is amazing, as you can pretty much get responses immediately. I will definitely look up the websites mentioned to get the best deal, and I guess we can%26#39;t avoid the LDW if we want to rest easy on the trip.

    Regards

    Ally

We are from Perth and currently in Vegas having a blast.

The best US car hire deals are out of the UK. Just google ';US Car hire'; and look for .co.uk sites.

The insurance in the US will kill you. We used to live in the UK and flew to US several times per year. Many holiday companies in the UK would give you the car hire free if you paid for insurance.

Go for an all-inclusive rate, with no one-way charges from LA to LV.

A good tip is to either book the car type you want if the price is good, or book the cheapest car possible. The car hire companies rarely carry the smallest cars. Last time we rented from Dollar at LAX they only had larger cars. The car hire agent will try like crazy to upgrade you. Pretend to be uninterested and the upgrade rate will fall quicker than the Aussie Dollar. Expect to pay about $8 to $10 per day for your choice of Premium group car.

loss damage waiver aka collision damage waiver involves the rental car you are driving not a car you might hit.

The situation of whether to buy it is complicated by because your own car insurance may have the coverage and some credit cards might provide coverage but everyones situation may be different.

It should cover the deductible on damage to the rental and that nasty situation where a rental car company may charge you for loss of rental use while the rental car is undergoing repair.

talk to your insurance agent, and check with your credit card company. do google loss damage waiver and read until you understand your situation.

I live out of the US too. When we travel to the US we frequently rent a car. Our credit card company covers the CDW and LDW insurances for rental cars in the US if we pay with it, so we only buy the liability insurance, which is cheaper. So check with your credit card company and your car insurance too.

    Thanks all

Hey Kipperpie, where are you staying in Vegas? Still haven%26#39;t decided on a hotel.

Your comments were very interesting. I didn%26#39;t think we could hire a care through a UK company being in Aust for the States. Talk about a geographical jigsaw! I see you are from Perth, so I assume you have done it.

    Regards

    Ally

    Allyman,

We now always hire from uscarhire.co.uk . We have used other companies with no problems, ever. You book it over the web, pay a deposit on your credit card then the balance is deducted about 8 weeks before departure. Simply print out the voucher they email you and give it to the car hire people at LAX. They only extras are that you pre-purchase the first tank of gas (returning the car empty), and a few minor cost such as local fees (but you always have to pay these).

Neither your Australian car insurance, or credit card insurance are likely to cover US car hire excess (CDW, LDW etc). The insurance extras run at over $US40 per day for full cover if purchased locally.

The rates are only available to drivers with non-US or Canadian driving licences.

WE are stating at the Hilton Grand Vacation Club on Las Vegas Strip. It is a timeshare at the north end of the strip next to Circus, Circus. Really high-end 2 bedroomed suite with full kitchen and washer, dryer which is great when you are here for 2 weeks. No casino, and nice and quiet compared to most other hotels. Wherever you are on the strip you will have to travel to the other casinos/hotels.

Would stay here everytime with the family. If I was travelling as a couple or single for just a few days I would stay mid-strip.

These are the hotels I would choose:

    Wynn - luxury

    Encore - luxury

    Belagio - luxury plus fountains

Paris - great food, well themed

Venetian - so over the top

Ceasars Palace - over the top plus nostagia

Luxor - Bit far south but still OK

Rio - has great shows and the hostesses are hot

    Palms - Party time

Wild card choice is The Orleans on Tropicana. Huge rooms, great rates and one of the best Fun Books at check-in (free meals, drinks, spa etc). A bit out of it, but you%26#39;ll have a car. Also it%26#39;s near In N Out Burger (best burger in town, especially after a night out). The great thing about The Orleans is that they always have good rates when the rest of the hotels have gone ballitic. This is the only low-cost hotel I would ever stay in. There are some horific dives here in Vegas, but it is not difficult to avoid them. Stayed here in response to and email they sent and paid $US17.50 per room per night plus tax. This included a free burger, free drinks, free use of spa, and loads of 2 for 1 coupons.

Best advice is to register online with all of the hotels you are considering then wait for offers by email. Also www.fatwallet.com has a section on hotel promos. The best time to book is about 2 to 4 weeks before arriving. Or hold till the day before if you like to gamble. Weekends are always busier an more expensive.

Tix2Night have good show and meal discounts. Also check out www.restaurants.com for discounted meal gift certificates. the code EXCLUSIVE gave us $25 gift vouchers for $4 instead of $10.

Final tip: buy a cheap Net10 disposable mobile phone (from $20 including call credit) you can use it call home (15 cents per minute, 10 cents per minute US). ou call also use it to register for the casino promotions (we got free drinks, discounted shows and food, a free trips up the Eiffel Tower from Rio simply by texting the number. The Eiffel Tower tickets saved us $36 alone as we were going up to see the Bellagio Fountains at night.

    harrahs website

Hey is anyone else having issues with harrahs website? I received a 72 hour sale email but the website is not responding....anyone else???

    harrahs website

I am having the same problem. Actually I was able to access Harrahs but I prefer the Flamingo (got married there).

    harrahs website

    Sandy:

Do you have to book with their website, or could you just call Harrah%26#39;s and inquire about the sale?

Perhaps their website is simply bogged down from interest!

I was able to book my trip on Harrah%26#39;s website last night using the 72 hour sale. 4 nights (March 18-22) at Flamingo for a total of $196. Pretty good deal for me since that is the first two rounds of March Madness. I hope it gets back online so you can book your trips.

I was just able to go online and book without a problem.

Wow that is an awesome deal!

Surprised a deal that good would be available during March Madness.

i finally got through saw harrahs has march 22-26 for $170...im already booked at MGM for $257 and i was going to cancel and book harrahs but my boyfriend flipped his lid and said were staying at MGM...so much for that extra gambling money!!!!!!!

for the incidental difference in money, I%26#39;d stay at MGM property instead as well.

But keep in mind I play tables, not slots and Harrahs rewards are geared towards the middle of the road slot player.

There are some cool things to do at Harrahs though.

Harrah%26#39;s does have some great deals going on with great rates for the rooms. www.harrahs.com on top click on LV then Hot Deals!!!!!

  • Voodoo Lounge

I see it opens at 8pm but can you go up for the view prior to 8pm? Is the lounge open during the day for non club hours? Thanks

    Voodoo Lounge

As far as I am aware, VooDoo Lounge still opens at 5 PM each evening.

    Voodoo Lounge

I know there is somewhere online to go to get a coupon for no cover charge into Voodoo-does anyone have the link? Also, is there free admission before a certain time?

I believe admission is free before 8 PM. For free passes between 8 and 10 PM, go here:

    www.riovegasnights.com

May only be available on certain nights.

    Thanks!

    Yep...free before 8pm.. great time to get a Witch Doctor...right Harlemgirl???? :-)

We went up last Saturday night about 6pm. They were out of dry ice, so we didn%26#39;t get a witch doctor. Went outside-a view you won%26#39;t believe!

    And a witch doctor is?????

If I remember correctly from my visit their a few years ago a witch doctor is a drink that comes in a large bowl like glass and smokes from the dry ice.

there not their....sorry pet peeve of mine (and I%26#39;m the one who did it!)

Why is the Weekend of April 3-5, So Freaking Expensive!?

    Guys,

I can not figure it out!?

Why is the first weekend of April 2009 so expensive?

Is their a fight or a conference that Friday, Saturday.

Please let me know because its painful seeing all these rates go down for the entire month (across the resorts), but not for those two days.

Thank you so much for anyone who can add some insight.

    Marty

Why is the Weekend of April 3-5, So Freaking Expensive!?

Spring break for many of the high schools and grade schools. I think its also the country music awards at MGM.

Why is the Weekend of April 3-5, So Freaking Expensive!?

    NCAA Basketball finals

    yeah. Mens College BB finals.

Try smartervegas.com You may be able to find a deal for your dates. We%26#39;re going the 1st weekend of MM which is usually expensive but found a good deal at Mandalay Bay. Just have to keep looking.

The ACM Awards are on the 5th at the MGM. I am going the 5-10 and it is really cheap during that time period. I looked over several hotels and that time it is usually about 20-40$ / night cheaper than the weeks before and after.

We%26#39;re going the 2-7th for ACMs. Paying for the convenience of being at MGM for the events. Almost 3X as much as we paid for 5 nights during cheap time-week before Christmas.

Actually made our reservation for 3-7 and now flying on 2nd to take advantage of free certificate travel. Hoping to get a good promo deal for the 2nd. That night will probably be at a different hotel.

Besides the ACM awards on Sunday at the MGM, there are two biggie conventions going on April 3-5 weekend: Bowling convention with 150,000 people and a broadcasters convention of 115,000 people. Tthere are many smaller conventions that weekend as well.

Like others have said, school ends for many that Friday for a week off for spring or Easter break.

We will be there that weekend, too, for a niece%26#39;s wedding.

    ';Besides the ACM awards on Sunday at the MGM, there are two biggie conventions going on April 3-5 weekend: Bowling convention with 150,000 people and a broadcasters convention of 115,000 people. Tthere are many smaller conventions that weekend as well.';

The bowling ';convention'; isn%26#39;t an issue. It%26#39;s an ongoing event that appears on the convention calendars irrespective of what dates you enter through July. National Association of Broadcasters convention is in April but later in the month.

NCAA Final Four isn%26#39;t a huge deal in Vegas like the earlier rounds of March Madness - there%26#39;s only a few games to bet on - but will still bring in some visitors. The awards is the big event of the weekend.

Don%26#39;t forget about NHRA. That will add a few more people. We normally go in April for that and I am glad we decided on October this year. We always seem to go on the weekend that is the most expensive. Maybe our luck is changing!!

3 Girls and One Night - What to Do?

I am staying with two friends (we%26#39;re all 27) at the MGM Grand this Saturday night only - first trip to Vegas for two of us.

We have dinner reservations at Tao for 7:15 and are hoping to do just a bit of gambling, then hit a few clubs. We don%26#39;t want to spend a ton for bottle service or anything, but would still like to avoid long lines since we only have one night.

Any reccs for fun clubs that might fit the bill, and thoughts on whether we should look into purchasing VIP passes or hosted entrance to the clubs??

Thanks for any help, we are obviously Vegas newbies :)

3 Girls and One Night - What to Do?

Jenni, the best thing to do with 1 night is to book 2 more...seriously, but why only 1 night?

    Bella

3 Girls and One Night - What to Do?

Haha, I know - I wish we had longer!!

Sadly, it%26#39;s busy season for my friends at work, and this was the most time they could get away. We%26#39;ll get there at 10am Saturday and leave at 10pm Sunday!

    bump?

Drink, Have Fun and make sure you come home with a WHIV SIV story.

    Good Luck!

If yuou want to hit more than one club in one night you might want to check out one of the companies that runs club tours such as Nite Tours. They get you in with no cover and no line, and provide transportation. The cost is reasonable. I did not have the best experience with it personally, but your results may vary.

I%26#39;ve heard about companies that offer VIP tours - has anybody had a really good experience with one? Thanks so much!

    Why move on from Tao?

One of the best clubs in Vegas and you are already there. Your server will have access to comp passes so just look after each other.

Alternatively, if you want something a little less exclusive, Studio 54 will be on your doorstep. Just walk through the casino on Saturday pm and you will be given passes for the club.

I agree, I wouldnt move from TAO! You will already be in there for dinner, stay and take advantage of the club at night!! TAO is one of the best clubs in Vegas, you cant go wrong!! Check out SpyOnVegas.com for pics from each night at all the clubs, including TAO, as well as JackColton.com for club reviews and such! Enjoy

Great idea about staying at Tao - thanks guys!! And good tip as well on picking up the passes for Studio 54, we will definitely do both :)

    Jennisu:

The title of your thread ';3 Girls and One Night-What to Do? caused me to smile and chuckle a little...

Obviously MY answer to that question as a red-blooded male will be a bit different than yours ;)

Thanks for the smile though :)

  • Imperial Palace?

Has anyone stayed in the Capri Rooms of Imperial Palace? My husband and I have booked through them because they have a great location and SUPER low price, but I didn%26#39;t really see any reviews on room types online? Let me know...it did sound like they are accomodating if I ask them....Thanks!

    Imperial Palace?

I haven%26#39;t stayed at IP (yet...scheduled for 4 nts comped 2/9-2/13). However, hers basically what I%26#39;ve been told: Average hotel in a great location, nothing remotely fancy, but a decent place to sleep and shower. However, I%26#39;ve heard the capri rooms are the LEAST desirable rooms in the place, being located in a building behind the main hotel, pretty much far away from just about everything the hotel has to offer (which isn%26#39;t a whole lot compared to other properties). IP wouldn%26#39;t be my first pick of hotels in Vegas, but for free, I%26#39;m willing to give them a try. The location is the primary thing IP has going for it, being located right in the midst of the Strip%26#39;s center area. If any of this ifnromation is incorrect, please feel free correcting me. I%26#39;ve never been to IP, and have based everything on what I%26#39;ve been told 2nd and 3rd hand.

    Imperial Palace?

From what most people say the Capri Rooms are so cheap for a reason! Other than the not so great quality of what you get, it%26#39;s a LONG walk to get there. Last year somebody posted a YouTube link showing just how far they are from the casino. You could probably find it with a search on YouTube. Sadly the video didn%26#39;t show the interior of one one of the rooms.

If I were going to stay at IP I would definitely pay the extra and book one of the regular rooms.

I stay at IP in the deluxe rooms all the time. They are pretty much the same price as the capri rooms. Call up and see if you can switch.

The deluxe rooms are clean and they are perfect if you want a center strip room for sleeping and washing.

I stayed there just over a year ago and they were nice and quiet!

When is your stay? Just curious because most the reservations at IP only book Deluxe Rooms unless they are sold out, otherwise they then use the Capri rooms (tower at the back of hotel). Your reservation may say CAPRI room on it, but chances are you will have a deluxe room at the same rate, like I said, unless they are sold out. We had booked online and the reservation did say CAPRI when I got the confirmation email however I booked the Deluxe Room. I called to clarify this and they told me they only use CAPRI rooms when the deluxe is sold out, which I can%26#39;t see very often. They told me I had a deluxe room.

Hotel is clean, great location, great rates, the deluxe rooms are your basic room, nothing special, but perfect for the price. Casino is really fun, enjoy your stay!

My DW and I are both Diamond players and always have offers for free nights at IP. However, the Capri rooms are always listed as unavailable. We have choices for the Deluxe rooms to the Luv Tub rooms and at times the suite but never the Capri. Now I know these rooms are not all booked so it makes me think they don%26#39;t want us to stay in one of those rooms....that in turn makes me think they are pretty shabby. We%26#39;ve stayed at the IP at least twice but have never seen a Capri room. I would say beware and at least get a Deluxe room there.

I have seen two YouTube videos on the Capri rooms. I showed it as a clean motel room, the other showed that it takes for ever and a day to get to them. The IP is already a so-so property and the walk to get to the Capri rooms defeats the purpoose of staying there for the location. I would pay a extra to get a nicer room or hotel.

Someone posted here about a week ago that Sammy Davis Jr. and I think I remember that Martin Luther King also used to stay in the Capri rooms when they were in town, but I might not be remembering it correctly.

If its good enough for them, its good enough for me !

I had some friends who stayed in a capri room and said they never would again. They have stayed at IP again but paid a small fee to upgrade out of capri rooms.

I have stayed at the IP twice, but never in a capri room. BUT the classic and deluxe rooms in the main part of the hotel are both good rooms, very clean and comfortable!

Hitzville The Show - anyone seen it?

i saw this show listed on goldstar events... and the price is certainly right... but i%26#39;ve never heard anything about it. i searched on the forum and there wasn%26#39;t really much mention of it.

has anyone seen it? it sounds like a great deal, but the review posted on the goldstar web site sounded a little suspect... it reads like a bio on the show from their web site. so i%26#39;d love to hear other opinions.

    little white wedding chapel

how far is it from the IP? Can we walk ,ordo we need the bus? Does the Deuce go there? I know that it%26#39;s half mile past the Strat, but have no idea the distance.....

    little white wedding chapel

it%26#39;s too far to walk. The bus goes right past there.

    little white wedding chapel

Snidely'; thanks, do you know how much the bus is? Our plan is to bus it over there, on Sat the 31st then to the marriage licencing downtown, hanging around and watch the light show gamble a litle then back to the IP .And get married on Sunday....So do we buy a pass for a day and then able to get all this done before it expires. Thanks for your help

Question? Why are you taking the bus there? If your getting married there they usually have a limo for ya. If your going to checkit out then the duece will work great. We got married there, we liked it alot we even gambled we would like it after seeing the website so e didnt go beforehand, We liked it alot. Good luck

Why are you going to the chapel first? Go get your license first. Call the chapel to set things up or book online.

I got married there too. The limo package costs extra.

we had a special that included transporation to and from the chapel. i just looked most of them do they will pick you up and drive you back to the hotel. Additional limo is available. iits just the 2 of you for $229 there%26#39;s a package that has limo ride to and from and pictures ect.I%26#39;d call to see if there%26#39;s any specials, ours was 198 but we boght extra things good luck

I got married there in 2004, very nice, the limo picks you up at your hotel and the driver dropped us off after ceremony at the place we had our wedding dinner,I also ordered my flowers from them and they were beautiful!!!The lasted for a few days,,,

Also the photos came out great too!

Maryland Parkway is a major north-south street that parallels the Strip, about one mile to the east.

There are grocery stores at each major intersection of Maryland Parkway from Tropicana to Sahara (virtually the entire length of ';The Strip';).

At the corner of Maryland and Tropicana, there is an old (and small) Vons.

At the corner of Maryland and Flamingo, there is a Target (NW corner) and a large shopping center with an Albertsons (NE corner).

At the corner of Maryland and Twain (which is the same street as Sands and Spring Mountain), there is a newer and larger Vons.

At the corner of Maryland and Desert Inn, there is no grocery store. This is where the Boulevard Mall is -- Sears and Applebees and I have no idea what else (a guy%26#39;s mental block). There is a liquor store on the SW corner and an Office Depot on the NW corner.

At the corner of Maryland and Sahara, there is an Albertsons (SW corner) and a Smiths (SE corner).

  • best airline from manchester uk

hi there. i want to take my partener to las vegas in mid may for his 50th birthday, i dont think you can fly direct now from manchester, i dont mind a stopover, but i have been looking on the net for flights and us airways seems ok price wise, but when i have looked on reviews about us alot of people say dont fly with them, can any one give me any advice on which airlines are good, and also is it best to book direct with the hotels for our accomadation, i would be very glad of any info please. many thanks.

    best airline from manchester uk

Hi i am flying with us airways out of manchester next weekend i booked my package through ebookers and they had some very good deals saved over £200 booking my flight and accomodation with them, yes the airline does have a few bad reviews but a friend of mine uses them regualr to visit family in the states and she has never had any problems with them.

You can fly direct to vegas with thomas cook, BMI are stopping there service at the end of April this year.

    best airline from manchester uk

We flew US Airways from Manchester via Philly in December. It was fine - not special, but fine. I would do that route again if the price was right.

We have also flown American Airlines from Manchester via Chicago to LV, and that was fine too, although the connection on the way there was a bit tighter, timewise.

We always fly direct from Manchester with Thomas Cook (previously My Travel). We%26#39;ve never had any problems with this airline at all and always use them for the convenience of flying non stop.

    Hope you find something.

    Yorkiepip

Our connection time in Philly is 1hr 50 min is this enough time to clear immagration and collect our bags , i know what you mean about the connection time in o%26#39;hare i did it a few years back and that was pretty tight.

we%26#39;ve flown to vegas with continental via newark and were very happy. i%26#39;ve flown with them before and although it was a little bit more expensive it was well worth it. we%26#39;ve decided to go direct this year with thomas cook premium economy. even though it was less than £600 each it does save several hour traveling and arrives at 12.15pm so most of the first day left to enjoy, with the other airlines you don%26#39;t normally arrive till the evening.

hi there, thanks to all of you for your info, he keeps changing is mind, lol now he says he fancies a med cruise, but we will see, i know he loves vegas, we will sort something out soon i hope, cheers all.

    Best MGM Signature Suite?

OK, I%26#39;m down to four JR Suites to choose from thru VRBO. Which do y%26#39;all think is best? Tower 1, 17th floor strip view w/ balcony. Tower 3 16th floor w/strip and pool view w/ balcony. Tower ? 4th floor w/ garden and mountain view. I understand that ';strip view'; may be a very limited view due to other buildings. Still waiting on info on fourth suite. Rates range from $650 to $795 including all taxes and fees. Any suggestions?

    Weekday Shows

Travelling to LAS in July for a week, want to see Phantom.... do I need to book in advance?

Are there any readily available discount tickets to buy once we get there?

    Weekday Shows

saw Crazy Horse at MGM last trip - nothing special

    Weekday Shows

You can%26#39;t always tell with the musicals. Sometimes you can get discount tix, and sometimes you can%26#39;t. I think on a weekday your chances are better...but if you have your heart set on seeing it, you%26#39;re better off booking in advance. You can probably still get a discount through GoldStar or a similar website.

ticketmaster has a deal for phantom that%26#39;s usually on all the time (it%26#39;s already been running for a year or so) but they only sell about a month in advance, so you can%26#39;t get tickets yet for july.

    www.ticketmaster.ca/promo/ym5hl8?brand=tmdeal

they upgrade your tickets to golden circle for the price point one level down. (you get $160 tickets for the price of $132)

  • Real coin slot machines in strip casinos?

Are there any coin in -coin out slot machines left on the strip?

Real coin slot machines in strip casinos?

The New Frontier still had them in November.

Real coin slot machines in strip casinos?

Was there in Nov. and Slots A fun had coin ones.

There are at least a few at the Venetian. It actually scared me when I hit the cash out button and quarters fell out.

    Monte Carlo, Excalibur

The only place that had them in April was the Frontier. I think that is all they have. I went one night, but it was totally empty, left without gambling.

You might find a few at Excalibur, the Trop, etc... but less then 10 machines, if any.

So, I would only try The Frontier, down the street from the Wynn and TI.

My husband loves the real coin slots and pulling the handle. He%26#39;s old school! LOL There were several coin slots in the Venetian of different types. He had his choice of machines.

You might want to check at Slots of Fun and the Riviera for coin drop machines. they had them in January

The Tropicana had some coin spewing slots in October.

they are hard to find but i think every casino has them

Less and less Strip casinos have coin machines now, but they can still be found. As a general guide, the older the casino, the more likely they are to have coin games. Some examples:

Downtown - good luck finding a casino WITHOUT coin games. Some I believe are still ALL coin.

North Strip - Try Slots O Fun or the New Frontier.

Mid Strip - I thin the Venetian does still have some coin games, but that%26#39;s all that comes to mind.

South Strip - I know that Excalibur had some coin games last December, and the Tropicana still has a bunch.

Off the strip - same rule applies. Anywhere new (South Point, Red Rock), forget it. Older places (Sam%26#39;s Town, Arizona Charlie%26#39;s) will have a better chance.

I have it! I guarantee you will not find a single Ticket game at the Western! Let us know how it was there, and be sure and notify your next of kin before entering the building.....

It expires on Saturday. I went in to the MGM Mirage reservations system and tried the code on every single hotel and it was invalid on all of them. At this point I%26#39;m just forgetting it. Just wondering if others have had the same problem.

    Hey Lovetotravel,

MGM-Mirage%26#39;s website has been screwed up for a couple of weeks now. Last week, the website was totally down for ';maintenance';. This week Offers are shown, but the Resort is not listed next to those offers. Alot of help that is, as You found out.

I am hoping by next week the Resorts will be shown next to those Offers. I have never been able to book offers online through their reservations system.

When the www.playersclub.com site is up and fully working, the majority of the time, it will not give enough details anyway. You might see something like ';Spring Offer at Mirage - valid dates March 1 - May 1. No description as to what ';IT'; is! I wish they would at least list the phone numbers to call under each Resort%26#39;s Offer. That too becomes a chore to find each Resort%26#39;s Marketing phone number.

Check next week is all I can suggest, I%26#39;m hoping by then everything will be back intact. Hang in there, I am left waiting and wondering too. :(

Taking a poll... Paris vs Wynn

I could use your help. Maybe this poll would help me if you all could give me your opinion on where to stay if you were offered this.

3 Free nights at the Paris (Sat, Sun, Mon) or a room rate of $109. at the Wynn (Sun, Mon) Catch...Wynn wants minium of 2 nights, but is willing to throw in $150 Free Credit for the stay.

Which would you choose to do?

Thanks for your replies in advance.

Taking a poll... Paris vs Wynn

When is it you plan on going? If it%26#39;s pool weather, seriously consider the Wynn. Those rates are great. However, if you don%26#39;t plan on sunbathing/swimming I think I%26#39;d take Paris for free and go eat at Wynn. Have fun choosing!

Taking a poll... Paris vs Wynn

I would choose the freebies at Paris (I always do!) Just go play at the Wynn and stay at Paris! While I%26#39;m sure the rooms are not as nice at Paris, I wouldn%26#39;t want to spend the extra money...I would rather have that for my gambling budget!

I noticed you mentioned a $109 rate for Sunday and Monday at Wynn. What would you do for Saturday night? Would you stay at Wynn, but pay a lot more?

I loved staying at the Wynn, and only stayed one night at $119, with a $100 free slot play. So, your two nights at $109 with $150 free slot play is awesome. Also I agree with the poster regarding whether it will be pool weather and you are a pool person. Wynn%26#39;s pool and atmosphere is great.

If you had to stay somewhere else one night and then move to Wynn (such as Paris comped one night and then to Wynn) I am not sure I would do it this time. I%26#39;d consider just taking the free room at Paris. I have not stayed in their hotel, but understand it is one of the nicer ones. Plus, free is free.

With only a three night stay, I don%26#39;t know that I would want to move, but I guess I wouldnt%26#39; totally rule it out. When I moved to Wynn for only a one night stay I was already booked through Priceline at Planet Hollywood, and so that was set. I was able to extend my Vegas trip by one day to take advantage of the good deal.

Well, the deal is for Feb. I would consider taking 1 night at the Paris, then changing to the Wynn. I heard it is not so good to do that because of all the time wasted checking out, then checking in.

But a 5 star hotel, like the Wynn, for rates like that, just don%26#39;t come around very often. Well I suppose getting the Paris for 3 nights free doesn%26#39;t happen often either.

I haven%26#39;t stayed at either one, so I am not sure who has the best rooms. I would guess the Wynn, but many, many people love the Paris.

Oh, so darn hard to decide.

Thanks for giving me your opinions. It does help me.

Wynn hands down. I turned my $200 in free play into around $1800. I love the Wynn. The whole French thing really starts to annoy you.

I would do the Wynn, but if you want to save money and go with comps then do Paris.

As you said it%26#39;s a hard choice, but it%26#39;s such a great deal at WYNN for $109 plus $150 Free Play is like getting 1 night free %26amp; the other night for $68 so it%26#39;s almost like Free IMO so I think the WYNN is a terrific deal when you look at it like that. Yes you get 3 nights Free at Paris but no Free Play so you are saving money to gamble with. I would go with WYNN for the 2 nights, very luxurious, great CW service, it connected to Encore %26amp; when will you see a great deal like that again for Wynn. More than likely you will get Free rooms at Paris in the future. Paris is a very nice hotel, friendly staff, connected to Bally%26#39;s.

Their is no wrong choice just better choice. IMO you can%26#39;t go wrong with either choice so it just depends on which meets your criteria better %26amp; how you look at it.

Thanks again all. I just was looking at that Wynn offer again. Seems that for 20 more a night, I can choose the Encore. Would that be worth it? I never saw what the Encore looks like, really. When I was in Vegas last, it was May of 2006. So not so sure what to expect from the Encore.

    Oh these decisions. lol

I%26#39;d pay to stay at Wynn over staying for free at Paris. I was not impressed with Paris - I thought the customer service was lacking and I%26#39;m not a big fan of the casino there. Wynn is just a much better property and I am willing to pay for quality.

I hope you enjoy your trip...:)

No secret I am a big Wynn fan, but free is free. It%26#39;s not like the Paris is a travel lodge. It is a very nice property with nice clean rooms and plenty to see and do. Take Paris and do Wynn next time. Word on the strip is these low rates and specials will go on for awhile.

seafood village buffet, rio hotel, las vegas

    hi

have you dined? at the seafood buffet at the rio hotel, las vegas since it has been redone and just recently re opened/ what is your opinion? had you eaten tere before it was re done/

    thank you for yoour comments

seafood village buffet, rio hotel, las vegas

Well I have not eaten there since they re-opened, nor do I ever intend to.

If was really bad before they shut down, and everyone I have heard from that has been there since the reopened says it is even worse.

seafood village buffet, rio hotel, las vegas

Have not been , but I remember someone posted some pretty negative comments about it last week ( and they had been to both the old and new one) here%26#39;s the link:

    鈥ripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g45963-i10-k18370鈥?/a>

YUK - at least before it closed. Was one of the worst, I can%26#39;t imagine it improved enough to make it worthwhile. HET is not known for quality, improving on anything that will cost them more $$ or good customer service.

They did have a locals special I received in the mail. Maybe a local took them up on it and will post

We enjoyed eating at Rio%26#39;s seafood buffet until last summer. It was really nasty and the lobster was a joke. We will never go back. I%26#39;ve heard since they reopened a couple of weeks ago they still charge $38 but you have to pay extra if you want a lobster tail (I would hope it%26#39;s a real lobster tail by charging extra for it). So you%26#39;re probably looking at around $50 per person if you like lobster.

What is HET please? Keeps coming up in posts....

You would be better off to spend the money at Bellagio or Wynn dinner buffet if you are looking for a good buffet. You%26#39;ll find seafood and lots of other delicious stuff - around $40, but IMHO, better than the Rio Seafood Buffet.

    redstate, it%26#39;s Harrah%26#39;s Entertainment Inc.

We stayed at the Rio Dec 26-Dec29, 2008 and we had dinner at the Seafoof Buffet on our first night. It was wonderful. We were in line about 20 minutes and then were seated. The waitstaff was quick with our drinks. The food was fresh, there was dozens of choices to select from, and it was an excellent experience. We definatly reccomend it to all.

I was just there Monday night. It costs us $38.95 per person. The wait wasn%26#39;t long at all since it was a weeknight. Nothing special about the lobster tails. Normal looking and medium to smallish size. The crab legs were good and big. The sushi was fresh. The only fruit I found was watermelon. The desserts were plentiful but I didn%26#39;t find flan (my favorite). The decor was nicer than before the renovation. Seafood is not my favorite so I found the price too high for my taste but my wife loves the place. It is the only place in Vegas that she will not miss.

    TR: Palazzo 1/16-19

    TR below!

    TR: Palazzo 1/16-19

    Friday 1/16

Easy flight out of SFO to LAS after work. BART from downtown made it easy to get to the airport on time. I do wish they had more trains than the 1 every 15min.

Took a taxi to the Palazzo and I totally got Tunneled! it was too late by the time I realized it. Ugh. $27! I said something to the driver and he started ranting about this and that. I was alone and didn%26#39;t want to deal with the intimidation so I just paid the man. I know, I know, I should have gotten his tag number and all that but I just wanted to get out of there and get on with my vacation. But I did save my friends from the same fate I called them and told them what streets to take (the clerk at the front desk told me what to say - I%26#39;ve already forgotten the street names, sorry!) and their taxi tab was only $16.

Checked into the Palazzo. It was fast, easy and efficient. I tried the $20 but they had no upgrades available for me. I think it would have been hard in any case, the only upgrade for a room with 2 queens would be a concierge level suite and that%26#39;s quite a price difference. She did give me a room with on a high floor (36) and a view of TI and the Wynn so that was nice.

I opted for purchasing the resort package ($29/day for 2 days). It was a decent deal. I was able to get 2 day passes to the spa (worth $40 each) that I used for myself and my best friend as well as 2 $20 vouchers off $50 for the main restaurants. I used them towards breakfast at Bouchon and a round of drinks at Sushi Samba. Those alone made it worth it. I also got 2 passes to Madame Tousaud%26#39;s, but I never used them.

I hung out in the room - gorgeous as always! Anyhow, I waited for my friends to arrive and played the Star Trek slots near the center of the casino. I never win and I got the bonus! Hooray! I tripled what I original put into the machine when my friends arrived. I printed out the voucher and we headed to the Grand Lux for a late night dinner. Now the sad part. I didn%26#39;t know it but that stupid game prints out TWO vouchers! ';What?'; you say? ';That%26#39;s crazy?'; you say? Well it%26#39;s true - and I didn%26#39;t know it. I walked away from the machine without my cash voucher. So keep that in mind if you ever play that slot. Luckily the casino was able to verify and reimburse me. Whew, that%26#39;s not how I wanted to start out the trip.

    Saturday

My BFF and I went for a relaxing morning at the Canyon Ranch Spa. We did the whole aquavanna thing and I have to say we both Qua was better. They are similar in terms of facilities, but Qua seemed to just have a little bit more. For example they offer juice and pretzels and tea service at Qua whereas at CRS you just get cold tea or coffee and fruit. The layout at QUA has better flow and the pool area is at least twice as big and has two more pools. The shower amenities at QUA are also better. We did like CRS steam room better though and of course convenience is a huge factor.

After the spa, brunch at Bouchon. Pricey but worth it in my opinion. I%26#39;m a big fan of their version of the Continental Breakfast. You get eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, choice of pastry, juice AND coffee. It%26#39;s about $26 with tax and tip. But mmmmm delicious and acutally a good value when you think about it.

After breakfast we played the slots a bit, okay alot until it was time to get dressed for a night out. We went to an offstrip restaurtant called Todd%26#39;s Unique Dining. Someone in our party was good friends with the chef so we gave it a go. If you do go - get the short ribs. Amazing is all I have to say. The decor and ambiance is nothing to write about, it%26#39;s in a shopping center. But the food could compete with some of the best on the strip in my opinion. It was full of local regulars which is always a good sign.

After dinner we hit LAX. Good times! I hadn%26#39;t been in the Luxor in quite a while and it looks like they are in the process of remodeling everything from the inside out. After LAX we ended up gambling in Excalibur of all places in search of cheap table games. I ended up playing slots again - up and down, mostly down :P We decided it was time to head home when we noted we were all fighting to stay awake.

    Sunday

We had a late start but got things going and went to Hash-house-a-go-go. Also off strip and a favorite. Great food and GINORMOUS portions. If you don%26#39;t have a fridge to bring leftovers home to, please just split an entree. I keep telling myself that and never do and end up wasting food. I got the pork cutlet benedict. It was delish, but I was scared of the size of my cutlet on top. I didn%26#39;t know pork cutlet came in that size, it was the size of about 4-5 hamburger patties, no lie.

After Hash House we hit NyNy for some slots and just made our way back up the strip gambling and walking along the way. This included some shopping at Miracle Mile. Some good deals to be had if you have the $$$ to buy. It was surprisingly sparse of people. Eventually we made it to the Mirage.

The original plan was to change at Palazzo and come back to the Mirage, but we ran out of time before our show (Love) so we just stayed at the Mirage. I went to the show with an armfull of shopping bags and my day clothes on (not ideal :P). We had a quick bit at BLT while we waited for the show. I had the classic burger waffle fires and Mocha Latte shake. I liked the burger but not crazy about the shake. It was way too sweet. I%26#39;d probably stick to the more basic shakes next time. After dinner some more slot time (more losses...sigh) and then LOVE! I came in with no expectations and I%26#39;m glad I did. I enjoyed the show much more that way. It surprised and delighted. I really enjoyed the music, the acts, and the creative visuals that Cirque is known for. Everything melded together very well.

We closed out the night playing at TI and Encore/Wynn so every hotel got a mini bailout deposit from us.

    Sunday

Mainly just waking up (painful!) packing up and getting to the airport on time. Palazzo provides a shuttle straight to the airport every 30 min for $6. Since it%26#39;s direct to the airport, it%26#39;s much more convenient than other shuttles. Flight back to SFO was way overbooked. They offered free RT flight, meal vouchers, and a hotel stay in vegas while you waited for the next flight back with a upgrade to first class. The only problem was the next flight wasn%26#39;t for another 8hrs. ouch. I declined and went home as planned. I had a great time as always, but I was very glad to go home.

    TR: Palazzo 1/16-19

Sounds like tons of fun. I haven%26#39;t been to Hash House a Go-Go yet, but I will absolutely remember to split an entree and be hungry for that before going.

I played at the exact Star Trek slots at Palazzo. They were fun, but I didn%26#39;t know about the vouchers coming out in two. Why is that? I don%26#39;t know if I ever cashed out with money or just played till I lost, but I thought I quit with $100 once. Hope I didn%26#39;t leave a voucher, gee!

If I had been offered a later flight with all of those deals I would have been really tempted, but mainly if it was MORE than 8 hours difference, like the next day for a flight.

Glad you had a good trip. I really like LOVE also.

Vanilla, sounds like You got quite a bit in on your long weekend! Loved your TR, and appreciate the restaurant reviews, couple of places mentioned that we%26#39;ve always wanted to check out, thanks for the tips!

    nice report

I don%26#39;t know Vanilla, free RT, meal vouchers, First Class, 8 hours more in LV? I think I might have taken that deal... Yep, definitely would have jumped on that....

Thanks for sharing your report. Where is the CRS in the Palazzo? Is it physically connected to the Venetian? Aquavanna sounds awesome. One of these days I want to try Qua, but I agree that if I%26#39;m staying at the Palazzo - I%26#39;d rather do the spa thing at the same property.

You should have checked your shopping bags with the bell desk at the Mirage - that%26#39;s one thing that I hate is to carry around shopping bags while dining or playing.

CRS is on the third floor (I think) of the Palazzo. It%26#39;s a separate CRS from the one at Venetian.

Sounds like you had a great time eating, lol. That%26#39;s a win in my head! Sorry you didn%26#39;t do better on the machines.

Love is great, isn%26#39;t it?!!! Glad you enjoyed.

    Any pics to share?

And tell me about a machine that prints TWO TITOS? I didn%26#39;t get that one.

Good TR glad you had fun in Vegas.

When I cashed out from the Star Trek game it asked me to create a user name to save my progress so I did. Then when I cashed out it printed one voucher that just had my username. What I didn%26#39;t know was that I actually had to hit cash out AGAIN! Doh! My friends had just got in and we were starving so I didn%26#39;t check to see what the voucher said, I had just assumed that it was the cash voucher like every other slot machine in vegas! :P

PS%26gt; I%26#39;ve definitely had to start up my workout routine as soon as I got back in order to start burning off all the food I ate in such a small amount of time.

Shoot, from the title I was hoping I could buy the MGM for a discount!

  • Why did I wait

2 weeks ago I could have rented a car for $8.00/day on priceline...

Now the cheapest is $32/day for the day%26#39;s were interested in

Looking for January 28 pick up at 10 pm and drop off Jan 30 NOT at the airport...

Will a better deal come up? damn I%26#39;m kicking myself

    !

    Why did I wait

I%26#39;m wondering if part of the reason is it%26#39;s Super Bowl weekend? Although you did say dropping off on the Friday before.

What was the reasoning behind NOT renting the $8 deal with Priceline??

    Why did I wait

I did the same thing. I am renting from Enterprise and paying 36.17 taxes in for one day! The prices were much cheaper a few weeks ago, but I wasn%26#39;t sure what day I wanted the car at that point.

TG First thing that came to mind was that it is obviously Super Bowl and UFC 94 BUT...yes, will be dropping the car off Friday at 11am.

Reason I didn%26#39;t book earlier is because we were trying to figure out our schedual and ya...guess being slow is now kicking me in the but!!!!!

Try Dollar.com It%26#39;s a little cheaper. Use the LV special screen. Rent the smallest/ cheapest car they have as they don%26#39;t have that many compacts and you get the larger car at the lower price. Keep an eye on it daily as the prices can change often.

Try travelzoo.com, I think Enterprise had a deal on.

    Ya...dollar is not showing anything

Will check travelzoo! Thank you :)

I checked a few days ago for rates for May and they were much higher than I expected, so I just decided to do what I usually do and taxi everywhere.

artemus I%26#39;m thinking that%26#39;s goin to be the call..but we have to have a car for 1 day at least as we%26#39;re doing Hoover Dam, Lake Mead and Valley of Fire

    SO

Should I book the 28th evening and drop off the 29th at 5?

Or is that SUPER rushing our day...?

Art, If you book directly with the Car Rental Co, there%26#39;s no deposit/charge at the time of reservation. Youve got a long ways to go before May, go ahead and book a reservation if You see a price thats okay, and keep checking the rates on different days of the week, and different hours.

Tip: Ive found checking on weekends (when everybody else is too) the rates always appear to be higher.

Its crazy how the rates can drop and rise on a daily basis!

I book a rate I think I can live with, and always keep checking, and just cancel the old reservation and book the new one at the better price.

Here%26#39;s another site I hope where Y%26#39;all might find a better discount or coupon to help off set some of the higher rates Youre currently seeing..

    Helicopter Tours

Looking for a good but not TOO expensive helicopter tour of either just the strip or the strip and grand canyon. Any advice??

    Helicopter Tours

Night strip flight currently available for $74.99 on Viator.com

The tour they sell is usually Heli USA%26#39;s Apollo night flight, which is currently $99 on Heli%26#39;s own website.

    Helicopter Tours

A helicopter tour isn%26#39;t cheap to begin with. Grand Canyon Helicopters, which is a subsidiary of Papillon, offers a canyon floor landing, overflight of Hoover Dam and Lake Mead and a flyover of the strip for ~$360. That would be about 4 hours from hotel to hotel. If you wanted to just fly over the Strip, that costs anywhere from $75 (online price) for a flight lasting about 15 minutes.

Other helicopter companies that offer similar tours are Maverick Helicopters, Sundance Helicopters and HeliUSA.

Landings on the canyon floor and/or overflights by helicopter out of Las Vegas also take place on the Western Rim, which is not the National Park, but the side of the canyon owned by the Hualapai Indian Reservation.

Papillon offers the best value for both. Just head to their website at papillon.com and peruse the tours there. A couple of warning: 1. most of their tours depart out of boulder city, not vegas. and 2. GC tours by heli head to a side canyon, not the national park. Have fun

I have used Papillon the last time I went to Vegas (5-2006). The rate now to fly the Strip is $59 + $10 for fuel charge. It%26#39;s about a 12 min flight but it covers everywhere you would like to see (Strip and downtown Vegas). I did the night flight, but they offer day and night flights. I really liked it and they pick/drop you at your hotel. Plus you get a glass of champagne, to boot. lol I will be going again in Feb.

    Have fun.

    TR 1/17-1/19 Flamingo, CDA, Wynn

    Sat 1/17

Left Austin on time – DH had security search but I was A41 in line and got us both a seat. Uneventful ride, saw a friend and chatted for a few minutes at the luggage carousel. We planned to get together - she wanted a craps lesson but we didn’t work it out this trip.

So DH asked about shuttle, I went and bought round trip tokens. What a mistake – that is two hours of my life I will never get back to save a couple of bucks. Shuttle driver over filled the bus with cash paying customers and waited forever to leave the airport then ten stops later we arrived at Flamingo. There was a long long line at Flamingo check in. It was 5 pm on a Sat nite and it was buzzing. DH was fussy from long shuttle and I was fussy because of him. Finally got the room (no upgrade available). Room number was 19174 – we got off the elevator and room numbers started at 19100 – so we were the last one on the floor. I should have packed a picnic before heading off. I was still fussy when I saw this room – basic is all I can say. Flamingo comp room.

Dropped the stuff – changed clothes because this is was so far away I knew we weren’t coming back to grab stuff or change for dinner or anything else.

Went down to casino to play a little and wait for Limo from Casa Di Amore at 7:30. I was hungry but decided to save appetite for dinner - couple of drinks would do! Played Flamingo and O’Shea’s for about 1 ½ hrs. Fun time, I found 4 Wiz of Oz machines at Flamingo and they were all always packed until morning we left (more on this later), Goldfish and some other random machines.

So picked up right on time by Johnny off to CDA. Folks this is the real deal –Old School. I loved it. Got there and reservation was for 8, we were asked to wait in bar – we waited for 45 minutes but the singer was a Frank Sinatra impersonator (in voice at least) and really entertaining. First round of drinks on the house because of the wait. These were some of the best Margaritas I’ve ever had (I am from Texas were we drink Margaritas). Patron hand mix – yummy! Dinner was great but we filled up on the bread because we were so hungry from the long flight and no lunch. I had the Ozzo Buco and hubby has a seafood soup type thing, we also had bruchetta , pasta soup with beans (fabulous). So by the time the entrees came we were already maxing out. Used the Resaurant.com coupon with no problem. Picked up after dinner and brought back to Flamingo.

Back on the strip kind of wandering north of Flamingo as far as Harrah’s, back to Bellagio for fountain show, checked out Bally’s and Bills. Whew, we were tired so headed up about 1am (3 am Texas time).

All in all we mostly played slots and I had a little win on Wiz, got lots of Fishy Kisses, he loved the Mermaids, I found an Alien machine that was kind!

    1/18

Sunday morning we got up and headed out. Hubby hasn’t stayed at Flamingo so we checked out the grounds, had coffee, went to OSheas and had fast food brunch (me Burger King – him Subway) we watch beer pong and then played some Wiz and other slots, I played a little BJ. IP, Harrah’s and then we headed off to Mirage to change in some old silver coins from a long ago trip.

Off to the Wynn (Win for me!) I got a Red card and began in on the Goldfish, and Wiz. We played and played here. I love this place and it loved me, one spin was a $72.50 win and another was $324.50 on one $3.00 spin. I would randomly hit max play and on two of those I hit Flying Monkey bonus! A friend had given me $20 to bet for her so I put it in an All That Glitters $1 machine – hit max play and won $160 in one spin. We split the win so that was a free $80 for me!

So we hit 150 pts and decided to wonder over to Palazzio %26amp;Venetian – hubby knows nothing about this forum or what people say about stuff other then what I talk about with him. So I was surprised when after about 15 minutes in the Venetian he started getting a headache and started complaining about the smell. Well I still love V but don’t think I will ever be staying there.

Went back over to Wynn for free buffet – long long line at buffet ( I guess an hour). I know I complain about waiting for buffets but I did it. Buffet was really good, crab legs, prime rib, shrimp, pasta, veal, I had good vegetable casserole, salads, tons of dessert, good coffee to finish.

We went back toward the Flamingo after a little more play at the Wynn. Watched the Sirens from across the street and the volcano, walked back to Bellagio for more fountains, headed to PH and played an Alien machine there won some $$$. We were leaving the next morning so I wanted to get to the souvenir shop by the Harley café. Got my playing cards and some t-shirts and keychains blah, blah, blah. Well we headed back to the room and got our stuff together for the next day.

Woke up and ordered room service and waited for it and got ready to go. Once we ate and packed we headed down for last bit of fun. Headed to O’Shea’s and played craps for about 30 minutes and won about $150. It was really fun and the dealers were fun, back to Flamingo and there was a spot on a Wiz machine so I sat on down. Put in $20 and started wishing for a visit from Glenda! She stopped by for a short visit –sadly. However, those flying monkey came on by for a nice long flyby and tons of wild spaces and I cashed out with $146 after just a few minutes. I stayed long enough for a couple drinkypoos and hubby wanted to head to airport . I went and checked out with cash got a ride to the airport and went on in. waited and back home from a really quick visit. I loved it and so did hubby. Hope its not so long until the next trip.

    Thanks for reading – Cheers,

Thanks for the report, I%26#39;m glad those monkeys were kind to you!

What a quick trip! But it sounded like a lot of fun!

Yep this trip was crazy short - but with two little ones at home it%26#39;s hard to find folks to drag them around to all their activities and school etc. I will take what I ca get!!

Pix of my biggest win on my facebook page

I forgot to mention the Bellagio Conservatory - it was dressed up for Chinese New Year. Beautiful

congrats on all the winnings! wow, I left vegas on the 17th, so i looks like i used up all the bad luck on the slots before you arrived!

Good %26amp; Fun TR, thanks for sharing you Vegas experience. Sounds like you had some luck with the winnings, how great is that!!!!! Your right short trip is better than No trip!!!! Glad you had a great short visit.

WOW...I was at the Flamingo at the same time but definitely didn%26#39;t have the same luck...glad you made out so well :)

I know what you mean about short trips and kids...I can%26#39;t wait to get another sitter so I can head back too :)

    CS,

Loved the video and the pics, glad you and the DH had a wonderful trip. Not too much craps seems like the slots got you but if you%26#39;re winning that%26#39;s the way to go.

No Vegas in my future until later in the year.

Yes, my with DH along I wanted to be somewhere where we could be more together. Craps is kind of a solo thing for us because he doesn%26#39;t play (yet). We had a couple long talks about betting craps, odds, stategies, etc -so he may play before long.

To be honest before this trip he didn%26#39;t really gamble at all, but I think he caught on!

    Cheers,
