Prescription drugs on carry-on

Hi,

I read on the tsa site that you are allowed to carry your labelled prescription drugs on your carry-on. But, do these have to be in a clear plastic bag, or can you just tell the tsa agent... the site is not clear on this. Thanks Joe

Prescription drugs on carry-on

If they are liquid you must declare them to the agent. You do not have to put them in the baggie. I always put them my carryon or purse and have never had an issue.

Put your prescriptions in a separate ziploc than the liquid and gels. Make sure to have the prescription labels on them. If its pills they don%26#39;t even ask. If its a type of liquid prescription they will want to see it.

Agree....Mom just puts her scripts in a ziplock, and she puts them in the tray, so the TSA agents can look at them if they want (but nobody ever has so guess she doesn%26#39;t look suspect) :)

Hi Mailman,

Your perscription drugs are suppose to be in your carry on (in case your checked luggage goes missing). Drugs do have to be in a clear zip lock bag. If you go on line to customs and immigration it will tell you what size the lip lock bag should be. When you get to the secutiry check you should take the plastic bag with your drugs out of your carry on and place it in the plastic container provided by security. I have my drugs made up in a pill dispenser sheet so it does not fit in the small zip lock bags so I use a large zip lock bag and have not had any problems because you can see the drugs require a larger bag. Also be sure that each drug container has a current perscription label on it in your name. My husband gets 3 boxes of a drug at a time and only one of the boxes has the perscription label on it so we always check to be sure that is the box we take through security. Hope this helps

Meds do not have to be in any clear bag. They do not have to have the original label on them. Pills do not have to be declared. Declare your meds, easy.

from the TSA website, which I find quite clear on the carry-on issue. They have a few links from the 3-1-1 brochure page (which is quoted below) if you want more in-depth information

';Declare larger liquids. Medications, baby formula and food, and breast milk are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint.';

';Drugs do have to be in a clear zip lock bag';

NO they do not.

Come on folks - read the TSA website, it is clear on this issue.

No meds, script or not, have to be in any special bag. You claim all of these at security - no matter what size or vessel type they are in. Carry 8 oz of a med if you want, no clear zip lock bag needed.

I%26#39;ve never said a word about my Rx meds and never had a problem. I travel with an epi-pen and they%26#39;ve never questioned it going through security.

Just put them in your carry-on bag and send them through the x-ray machine. I don%26#39;t carry any prescriptions or labels with me. It%26#39;s not a big deal.

I think if you have a small quantity of medication with you they will not question it. For convenience I put a weeks worth of my 2 prescriptions in a pill bottle, have a small bottle of Ibuprofen, a few Imodiums and a few tylenols in a baggy in my purse or carry on. They have never asked.

Now if you are carrying a huge bag of drugs they might be suspicious!

Pills don%26#39;t have to be delcared- only liquids over 3 ounces. Just to avoid any problems I do put any liquid medication over three oz.- prescription or otherwise- in another clear bag and send it through with my quart Ziploc bag. I don%26#39;t want to be stopped and I don%26#39;t want to have to open my suitcase to get them out if questioned.I like to be prepared. I never had any problems.

Thanks Veep...that was what I was trying to explain about my Mom :)
