My bf wants to take a road trip to Vegas, just wondering if anyone has done this and about how long? Google maps says about 25 hours.
Any good stops on the way?
Thanks!
Anyone drive from Chicago?
It%26#39;s 1750 miles.
That%26#39;s 25 hours driving at a steady 70mph without stopping to eat, sleep or use a bathroom.
Good luck!
Anyone drive from Chicago?
Blagger%26#39;s right. Right about half way there, you%26#39;ll start questioning your mental capacity and telling yourself, ';If I had flown, I%26#39;d be there already.'; And then the wife starts calling you a cheapskate, and your butt starts hurting and then towards the end on a long, lonely stretch of road, you%26#39;ll start to doze off. Oh that brings back bad memories.
We%26#39;ll end up probably taking 2 days to get there, we are gonna take our time, make a fun road trip out of it! Just wondering if anyone recommends stopping anywhere worth seeing on the way??
Yeah, I%26#39;m sure it%26#39;s gonna be a long drive! We were going to fly but the boyfriend wants really wants to take a road trip and on the way back stop and visit a friend in Colorado so we%26#39;ll see how it goes! ha ha..
If you are serious about this then I%26#39;d look at taking three or even four days. Any more than eight hours a day driving is way too much for me and I%26#39;d want to make sure I arrived in Vegas reasonably fresh.
You can definitely check out some great sections of Historic Route 66 in New Mexico and Arizona if this crazy plan actually happens...... :-)
I%26#39;ve driven from Eastern Iowa (3.5 hours west of chicago) 3 different times. (my mom hates to fly).. Don%26#39;t do it.. Just fly! Even from here, it was two very long days. Usually we drove to Denver the first day and then from Denver to Vegas the 2nd..
Really, your so exhausted when you get there that you don%26#39;t enjoy Vegas.. Then you have the drive at the end when you really just want to be home and resting up from vacation..
I would fly if I lived in Chicago.. It%26#39;s not a long flight and then you%26#39;ll be there enjoying it...
Why stop in Omaha of course ! Or you can stop just on the other side of the Missouri River off I-80 in Council Bluffs Ia. and hit one of the casinos here to get warmed up!
Wave at me if you come through on I-80 ! LOL. Actually when we drive to Chicago it takes us about 7 hours to the suburbs so if you were coming this way you would probably want to to keep going, once you get out of Omaha the limit is 75 and the traffic will be doing that and more.
A few sights in this area near the Interstate are the Omaha Zoo if you are into animules , the Strategic Air and Space Museum ( Ashland ) if you are a military aviation buff.
he he..Grayhorse beat me to a reply, because I was going to suggest coming through Kansas City and spending the night at Harrah%26#39;s, Ameristar, or Argosy! (then stop by Topeka to see the sights here)
And...I-70 goes right to Colorado from Kansas! LOL
Speaking as one who makes a much shorter drive to Vegas regularly, I must strongly advise you to consider the real hard part of the drive. Going back. To go almost 1800 miles to LV in 2!!! days, then, after living the Vegas life, drive back?? Good luck. Vegas makes many people long for a vacation from their vacation. Not drive 1800 miles in a hungover wasted stupor.
DH and I drive to Vegas from the Detroit area at least once a year. We drove it September 2008 and again December 2008. We actually drove to California in December for the Tournament Of Roses Parade and then stopped by Vegas for a couple of days on our way home. AAA says it is 33 hrs. and 33 min. It takes us 3 1/2 days. We stop each night. On the third night we are very close to Vegas but like to stop and rest up and then only have maybe 3 hrs or less of driving.
It is a long drive but it%26#39;s a great way to see our beautiful United States. We are retired and have lots of time. My Daughter came with us in December and she said she was happy she did. She%26#39;s flown out to Vegas many times but she saw so much more on this trip. I warned her before hand that it was a long drive but she said it wasn%26#39;t bad at all.
Along I-40 W. of Amarillo, TX in a field is the Cadillac Ranch. Cars half buried nose down. Take a can of spray paint and leave your mark on one of the cars. It%26#39;s nothing big but just kind of fun and you don%26#39;t have to go out of your way to see it. You can look it up online.
Don%26#39;t let anyone discourage you from driving. It%26#39;s definitely not for everyone but you won%26#39;t know unless you try it. I just booked our October 2009 trip at Caesars Palace - can%26#39;t wait!!
