Las Vegas to San Fransisco

My future wife and i are going on our honeymoon in sept/oct 09. We are visiting a few places but along the way we want to get from Vegas to San Fran. Booking with a travel company looks to be saving us money, but the flight from Vegas to San Fran is proving to be expensive(£400)! I was wondering would it be better to either drive or maybe get the train. Hopefully this would save us money. Obviously it would take us longer, but how much longer? And also is it worth doing?

Many thanks

Hi

Fiancee %26amp; I do lots of road trips across the USA but i cannot say I would reccomend the Las vegas - san Francisco drive

look into booking your own domestic/internal US flights with Southwest www.southwest.com (often sell Vegas-SFO for $49 each way plus taxes) They have quite a few direct flights per day

Virgin America is another LAS-SFO option - do a google search

I am planning on booking a flight LHR-SFO then after spending a few days in SFO will take domestic flight to Las vegas - I will prob book this with southwest as they are offering some great prices on direct flights.

Hope this helps

Have you tried United, our flights were $130 each on there website.

I would look into fares at southwest as well but i can tell you it is also a great drive going thru death valley, the sierras, and you could go thu the lake tahoe area or even the yosemite depending on what time of year you are traveling of course

quick and cheap? southwest is your answer!!

congrats on your upcoming marriage!

Agree with the Lake Tahoe comment... beautiful up there!

Thanks for all input guys, its really helpfull to me. I think i will book my own internal flight.

One option if you have the time is to drive..........

Cars rented through www.dollar.co.uk do not have a drop charge for pick-up and drop-off within the States of California, Arizona and Nevada.

www.netflights.com/carhire tend to have good offers for dollar and a smallish car is around £20 a day with all taxes and insurances included.

You could also pick up the car from a hotel on the strip and drop off in the centre of San Francisco which can be pretty convenient.

Plenty of cheap normal motel type lodgings can be found on route around the $50 a night price.

Although a longer route IMO the drive on Highway 1 from LA to San Francisco is an amazing and unforgettable experience especially if completed over a few days so allowing time to stop, look, listen and taking in all the sights, Monterey is a good overnight stop with the aquarium well worth a visit.
