Any recommendations on off strip restaurants (besides those in or near the downtown casinos)? I%26#39;m looking for the kind of places that the locals go to or are hidden gems (no chains). I%26#39;m leaving price range and food type wide open, because I want to see what everyone recommends. We plan to rent a car for our February trip, so we can go anywhere. Thanks in advance!
Off Strip Restaurants
Downtown there%26#39;s Hugo%26#39;s. Flame - inside El Cortez is a good choice as is the Peppermill (north end of the strip). Ellis Island will be the cheapest (price wise) and Hugo%26#39;s will be rather expensive. ($75 - $150 per person)
Off Strip Restaurants
This past weekend we tried Capri at Sunset Station. It is an Italian restaurant and we used restaurant.com for our dining certificate. We enjoyed it and it didn%26#39;t break the bank. With our certificate we had a $50 meal for $17.

Try Terribles. We use our American Casino Guide coupon for buy one get one free at the buffet, but they also have a restaurant with very good food and affordable.
Here%26#39;s a link to their website;

We also like the food at the Silveton, South Point, Red Rock, Sunset Station, and Green Valley Ranch.
From my last TR, we stayed at South Point:
Dinner was at Primarily Prime Rib, a new restaurant on the mezzanine. WHAT A FIND! Quiet and romantic, with soft lights and even softer music. The way a restaurant should be but seldom is in Las Vegas hotels. Think Prime Rib Loft, but much nicer. On of the things that makes the atmosphere so nice is that the bar is not part of the restaurant.
We both had the small Prime Rib cut which comes with salad tossed at your table and choice of potatoe ($14.95). Along with a bottle of Kendall Jackson Merlot ($32) and cofee afterwards the total for dinner was $72, and incredible value.
The only negative to this restaurant, it would be that the menu is very limited. They don%26#39;t even have steak on the menu, although they had one as a special. So you really want to go here for Prime Rib.
I will also recommend Austins at Texas Station, and we really enjoy the Cortez Room at Gold Coast.
you should check out ellis island for sure.
it%26#39;s a quick walk from center strip (10 minutes or so from the flamingo area) and not only is the food well priced, but it%26#39;s damn tasty. however for me, the real draw is the microbrew beer. delicious and about a buck a pint (i think i read it went up to $1.50 a pint recently) and if you%26#39;re not a beer drinker, the root beer is worth the trip.
the root beer is worth it? vancouversue, that is interesting. my son would love that. i don%26#39;t drink beer myself. but i have seen the prices are good, and the food is suppose to be good too. i don%26#39;t go until may, but making my list of things. Ellis Island is on it, also got coupons for it. cooooooool.
my husband and i are huge fans of craft brewed root beer and we thought the root beer at ellis island was some of the best we%26#39;d ever had. it was DELICIOUS.
we%26#39;re also big fans of microbrewed beer and thought the beer offered at ellis also could hold its own. and for the price, we were especially impressed.
How far off the Strip are you willing to go?? There are some great places to eat all over Vegas. If you%26#39;re looking for good Chinese and Vietnamese food, go to the ';Chinatown'; area on Spring Mountain Rd. Another great place is Hash House A Go Go on Sahara Ave. There are also some great places in Summerlin and near the Red Rock Casino.
We%26#39;re from Houston (very spread out), so we%26#39;re used to driving 30-45 minutes to get to some of our favorite restaurants. I think on a vacation, we%26#39;d want to stay within a 30-minute drive of the strip (we%26#39;re staying at Caesars). However, we do plan one or two day trips - still trying to figure out where (Red Rock, VOF, Zion...).
A great place with great food is called Buca di Beppo, and it is a nice family italian restaurant. It is on East Flamingo. The portions are rather large and the price is inexpensive. We were there last week with a party of 10. Ordered the cheese garlic bread, Brushetta, a large garden salad, a large Spicy Arrabbiata pizza, a large lasanga, small ravoli, a large spaghetti with meat sauce and an order of chicken parmagian. There was tons of food. Some people got sodas and the entire bill came to $150.
