Comps Harrahs vs. MGM

I%26#39;ve been watching the review boards for our upcoming trip to Vegas. I have noticed alot of people talking about comped trips and most are playing with Harrahs. We have player accounts with both MGM Players Club and Harrahs but play more with the MGM properties as we usually stay at NYNY. My question:

Does Harrahs comp more freely than MGM properties? Should we switch our play to their casinos???

Harrah%26#39;s does comp rooms more freely than MGM but MGM comps room charges more than Harrah%26#39;s and offers freeplay. It also depends on your game. Harrah%26#39;s is great to slot players but table players tend to be frustrated with their program. MGM tends to treat table players better but you need to play at the right casino for your bankroll and average bet.

Harrahs comps more rooms and other hotels locations they have out of state and MGM will comp more meals.

Seems to me the better of the two is Harrahs, unless you%26#39;re hungry and have a lot of people to feed. lol

I just booked the Paris for Feb for 3 free nights. They gave me a choice on all their properties and I chose the Paris. I feel this will be better then my 3 free meal comps at MGM. lol

We have stayed and played at Harrahs properties and at MGM properties and we get just as good and sometimes better room comps at MGM properties. Plus we get alot of free play and yes, we also get meals comped. We have gotten a few trip offers from Harrahs along with free rooms and offers where you get so much in free play after you play a certain amount, but overall, we think we get better offers from MGM and we also think their properties (at least the ones we play and stay at) are nicer overall than Harrahs properties. Our favorite place to stay now is MGM Grand so we play alot at the properties on that corner. We always go down to center strip and play at Harrahs properties but our favorites really are the MGM/Mirage properties. We seem to win more with them and prefer staying with them.

Have stayed at more MGM properties, only at Ballys for Harrahs (though a few times), yet MGM offers us zilch: Harrahs--well, we could live at their properties nearly all year round for free!

BTW we are NOT slot players AT ALL--DH is a table player, I mostly play poker (zippo comps there), and occasionally table games or VP.

Leo21 did a great job summarizing the difference between the two. To answer your question, we%26#39;d have to know what you play...how much....and for how long. I also don%26#39;t want to offend anyone, but I think MGMMirage has a nicer inventory of rooms in Las Vegas. To over-simplify one of the biggest differences: Harrah%26#39;s is more generous with the rooms....MGM is more generous with food and beverage.

We play video poker, slots, and occasionally table games. My husband bets large amounts on sports but as far as I know no one recognizes those bets for comps (if you know of somewhere PLEASE let me know!)

We have only been to Harrahs once in the last year played for about 5 hours and spent about $400 (didn%26#39;t lose that much just played that much). We currently don%26#39;t have any offers from Harrahs (not complaining I%26#39;m sure you have to play more than this)

On our recent trip to Vegas (NYNY) played VP probably 3-4 hours a day stayed 4 days. They comped one meal of $86 off our bill. We were happy with this but it seems like they are not motivated to try and get us to return.

Not sure if that answers the question of what we play.

We get better comps at MGM and we are slot players. I play mostly quarter and under and hubby plays higher limits. On my account I tend to get comped rooms with little free play and on hubbys account we can get RFB, now are accounts are linked so I can use either accounts offers, but they do expect so much play even if he is not there, when I use his offers.

HET comps me room at certain properties and sometimes throws cash bonus in.

I guess I feel better about MGM because we do have a host and get the personal treatment.

Kajunkel: You may be a good candidate for Total Rewards, especially if you play at their riverboats in your area. My step-mom is a mid-high Diamond at Harrah%26#39;s and loves their program...but she is almost exclusively slots. Her host told her not to even present the card in the poker room because it could actually hurt her offers. I don%26#39;t know about the sportsbook (they will swipe your card though).

It%26#39;s the $25 and up blackjack players who really hate Harrah%26#39;s. Bad games are the biggest reason (house edge is twice or even 3x what you%26#39;ll find at MGM) followed by lousy food comps.

You don%26#39;t need an actual offer in the mail to get a free room or discount from Harrah%26#39;s. Set up your account online and try checking your dates while logged in. It may not be a free room but it may be as good or better than the Hot Deal rates.
