Car rental or not?

I%26#39;ll be flying in from Toronto and staying at the Mirage for 3 days, Feb 20-23 and was wondering if its worthwhile to rent a car. Its our first time in Vegas and want to see all the hotels and attractions. Is it easier just to walk everywhere?

Car rental or not?

For a first trip to Vegas lasting just three days all your time is going to be spent checking out the Strip with perhaps a trip to check out Downtown one evening, though it%26#39;s debatable that you%26#39;ll even get around to that.

No rental car required in my opinion. You%26#39;ll cover most of what you%26#39;ll be seeing on foot. Jump in a cab when your feet get tired, which they no doubt will!

Car rental or not?

such a personal decision - some always, some nevr.

This is one topic you can serach - sort by date for the latest threads if you want them - and you can read for hours on this topic.

drinking alcohol? Going off strip? Can someone naviagte? Have walking issues? Hate to drive in congested traffic? Don%26#39;t have your own liability insurance? So many factors to consider - no one answer for all.

For us money is not the determining factor - we may spend a few more bucks to use limos, for us worth it, since we can relax, not wait for valets and enjoy any travel time.

Ok, my thought is that you are there for a pretty short trip, and there is way more than enough for you to see right on the strip without having to leave the strip to go other places off-strip. With that in mind, you may just want to arrive, take a cab to your hotel, stay somewhat at mid-strip, and then walk most places. It is a lot of walking, but if you are up for it, there are things to see and do along the way. If you prefer, you can cab or take the monorail to a part of the strip and see everything there, and then do the same on another day. If you are thinking of going downtown one night, a car does come in handy, but it isn%26#39;t bad taking a cab there either. I like cabs for the simple reason that no one has to worry if you are drinking and partying while in Vegas. But, if you are travelling together and don%26#39;t drink much(or one of you doesn%26#39;t) Vegas is easy to navigate by car, and a car comes in handy. Valet service is great, so when you decide to drive to a location on the strip, you can just use the valet service for one place, explore that part of the strip, and then tip the Valet $2-3 and off you go. Parking is free if you choose to self-park.

My first solo trip was a 4 night stay at the Mirage. I did not rent a car. I used the shuttle to get to and from the airport and took the Deuce to get Downtown.

I was actually glad to be able to spend my whole trip not doing any of the driving, and you%26#39;ll be fine if you choose not to also.

I am a firm believer in renting a car. I don%26#39;t want to take a slow and crowded bus, pay cab fare and hike to a monorail station. That said- if you are only staying three days you really don%26#39;t have to have a car. You will be sticking to the strip and if you are staying at a centrally located hotel you can walk to almost all of the southern casinos and most of the northern casinos.

Don%26#39;t expect a subway system like Toronto. Vegas has many cabs and no subway. The monorail covers most of the strip on the east side of the street behind the casino%26#39;s. It is a good walk to the stations from some casino%26#39;s. You can take a slow bus ride downtown for a couple of bucks or a cab for about $15 to $20 USD.

If you decide not to rent a car, I would say there is plenty to do and see on a three day trip staying at the Mirage%26#39;s (right in the middle of the strip) excellent location. Be prepared for a lot of walking by having good walking shoes in either case.

You could change your mind while in Vegas and the Mirage has a Dollar car rental location right in the lobby. You could rent a car for a day if you choose. Pick up and drop off right at your hotel. You can view prices on line at their website. The price is reasonable. Stay off the strip as much as possible if you do. Learn a few of the back ways around. Spring Mountain road is a good way in and out of the Mirage.

After thinking about it, as a first timer to Vegas, you might like the slow bus ride downtown. You will get to see the outside of all of the casino%26#39;s and could decide which ones you might like to visit.

There is a pick up location right across the street from the Mirage.

The only time I went to Vegas, I rented a car. It was my first trip and I love to drive to get a feel of all of new location, not just the hotel I%26#39;m in. I went with a friend and we loved going back and forth from downtown to the strip, being able to go to the gas station for cheap munchies and drinks, etc. Parking is easy, so it just made sense to us.

We%26#39;re bring our husbands this time (Feb. 16-20)and plan to rent again (if the rates get down to $12/day or lower). I guess because we paid $7.75/day last time helped us to decide it was the best way to go.

I just don%26#39;t see the incredible prices that I usually do. If they are there, rent a car!

Do your feet a big favor and rent a car. Cheaper then a taxi, no long crowded bus trips and you can go off strip if you want. The hotel/casinos are huge and you will be doing a great deal of walking just to see them. Hubby and I always rent a car. It is so easy to get to the car rental area, just walk out of the airport to the curb and hop on a bus. Short trip over to pick up your car.

Have a great time.

Molly

Dollar allows you to rent at a hotel and return to the airport and/or the other way around. If you can get cheap rates it may be worth it to do that.
