What to Do in One Day

Hi there! My 24 year old son and I are planning to attend a convention at Bally%26#39;s on January 22 - 25, 2009 - and are arriving a day early.

Just a quick question of what are some inexpensive things we can do on the day before the convention? The convention actually starts 7:30 pm the next day, so we%26#39;ll have a lot of that day as well.

My son has never been, so maybe some of the sites around Bally%26#39;s would be cool to see -

I%26#39;ve dug around the forum here and have some ideas of buffets and things to see; for example, I%26#39;d like to do the buffet at the Bellagio. Maybe Paris%26#39; buffet as well.

Would walking down to the Luxor be worth it? How about the show at Treasure Island? Is that still pretty fun? And I was thinking of doing the gondolas at the Venetian - but rather have my wife there, ha!

Thanks for any quick tips!

Kind regards,

Dave Jackson

What to Do in One Day

is your son over 21?

why not let him read about LV and se what he likes - all of us have different tastes.

The gondolas are one of the things I like least about LV - he might love it - I don;t get why people want to ride through a mall (I also don%26#39;t like to done in malls!)

For me, some of the casinos I take first-timers to (always at night): Hard Rock, Wynn, Palms, Caesars, Mandy, Bellagio, venetian

Do you want to see any shows? Big Elvis is free, afternoons only weekdays.

Some things I would suggest are to see the Bellagio fountains, take a ride to the top of the Eiffel Tower, and see Big Elvis at Bill%26#39;s which is an hour long free show in the lounge. Your son would probably like the show at TI. I have only seen the pirates show and not the Sirens, but from what I gather, there is a lot of skimpily dressed women in it. I personally would never take the gondola ride, but maybe your son would enjoy it. You could also take the free shuttle to Rio and see the free show there and then go to VooDoo for a drink.

We always stay center strip, between Bellagio and Mirage. On day one, we have the same routine. We walk down the east side of the strip visiting all our favorite properties... Flamingo, Paris, Miracle Mile, and MGM until we reach the ';Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas'; sign. We take our pictures, realize we%26#39;re here for the week then begin the return trip up the west side of the strip visiting our favorites on that side. It%26#39;s a good walk, you see the sights, and get to visit the different properties.

It%26#39;s a long walk, but a good one, especially for a first timer, and would take up some time and provide plenty of photo opportunities!

Hope this helps a little!

Where about is the Welcome to LV sign? Thanks in advance. Would love to try to get a pic of my son in front of it when we go in a few months.

@bridgefan_1 Thanks so much! Makes sense, but he%26#39;s never been, and yes, he%26#39;s 24. We%26#39;ll definitely hit as many of those casinos as we can, and skip those gondolas - well, I%26#39;ll ask him first.

I%26#39;ll look up Big Elvis, too. Thanks!!

Dave

Dave said his son is 24.

I agree with seeing Big Elvis at Bill%26#39;s, it%26#39;s fun and free, and to me the most fun is watching how some of the crowd reacts and also seeing other Elvis impersonators hanging around the bar.

If he%26#39;s never been, just walking around the Strip should be fun, maybe stopping in at Margaritaville, Carnival Court, Planet Hollywood.

There are 2 ';Welcome to Las Vegas'; signs, one just south of Mandalay Bay in the middle of Las Vegas Boulevard and one just north of the Stratosphere, also right in the middle of The Strip!

I recommend the one south of Mandalay Bay because, well I like it better South Strip and it%26#39;s closer to where we stay!

oops, I see you already told bridgefan how old your son is. Delay from the time I sent it to the time I posted it, I guess.

Thank you Groovy. That is so cooool. Too bad I can%26#39;t bring my son to see Elvis. He%26#39;s only 18. oh well, there%26#39;s lots more to do. I%26#39;d love to see Elvis. lol

To me the must sees: Bellagio conservatory and fountains at night; Eiffel Tower; Venetian canals and ceilings. I wouldn%26#39;t suggest the gondola ride but that isn%26#39;t something you have to decide before you get there. Big Elvis is a hoot and he is very entertaining. I would not walk down to the Luxor. You have a short period of time so make the most of it. If either of you like cars- the Auto Exhibit at Imperial Palace is pretty impressive and you can get in free with a coupon.

I would definitely avoid the Siren Show at TI and the Masquerade Show in the Sky at the Rio. Both are very, very lame and just not worth it-women in skimpy outfits or not!
