The more I read the more I'm confused !!

The more reviews I read the more confused I get about Vegas.

We are thinking of splitting our stay into 3 nights in Vegas to do the strip casino thing. 7 nights in San Diego then back to Vegas for 4 nights to do the Canyon and a bit of chilling out.

The first 3 nights we were thinking of staying in a Luxor/MGM hotel type but the reviews are so confusing. Some says they%26#39;re great but others go on about them being dirty, smelly and staff so rude and out to rip you off.

The last 4 nights we planned to stay at the Four Seasons but the reviews go from WOW to %26#39;Not worth the money%26#39;.

It%26#39;s almost as if there is a unspoken culture of the turn over of clients being so vast the hotels don%26#39;t care if you have a lousy time as they%26#39;ve already had your cash and the next lot come tomorrow !!!

My head is about to blow up.....can anyone help me out. I so want this to be a trip of a lifetime for all the right reasons!!

Hi! No matter what type of question you post here, you%26#39;re going to end up with a whole lot of answers! That%26#39;s what this forum does - it%26#39;s peoples%26#39; personal opinions. SO! On that note here%26#39;s my two cents worth.

This is your first trip to Las Vegas, yes? Do you have a price in mind for what you want to spend per night for a hotel? If you want to be ';center strip';, I%26#39;d stay away from Luxor and MGM; they%26#39;re way south on the strip. You could try The Mirage or Treasure Island, both MGM properties and in the middle of the strip. Or, any of the Harrah%26#39;s properties which would include The Flamingo, Harrah%26#39;s, Paris, Caesar%26#39;s Palace. Oh yeah, I forgot - Bellagio is mid-strip and a MGM prop.

Do some reviews of the hotels. Try this website: www.cheapovegas.com - that%26#39;s where I started back in the day!

I%26#39;d be happy to help further if you have any questions, pm me!

Hi

If it%26#39;s a trip of a lifetime, i would stay alot less night%26#39;s in San Diego. We stayed there for 3 night%26#39;s and spent one day in Mexico out of that time and we were ready to leave. You would be better off driving to the Grand Canyon for a night or two, then on to Vegas. As for the hotel reviews, just take the average comment%26#39;s not the extream one%26#39;s. Never stayed at the Four Seasons but I bet it%26#39;s great.

One thing to bear in mind when reading online reviews is that human nature dictates that the 5% of unhappy guests (and every hotel has these) are way more likely to post a review than the 95% who leave totally satisfied. With hotels the size of those in Vegas that%26#39;s thousands of happy guests who go nowhere near posting a review. MGM is a great midrange choice (much better than Luxor in my opinion), if you have any issues with your room or anything else then complain about it. These properties are in the business of providing excellent service and if you give them the chance to right any problems they invariably will.

Four Seasons is wonderful. I stayed there last year and thought it was worth every penny.

Stay on the Strip. I%26#39;d be tempted to ignore the reviews you mentioned. It%26#39;s true that some rooms are higher spec than others, but I%26#39;ve been to Vegas three times so far, stayed at a few different hotels and dirty and smelly are not really words I%26#39;d associate with the Strip at all - anywhere except maybe Stratosphere and Circus Circus

Plus I%26#39;ve always found the general levels of service (with the possible exception of the front desks) to be very high and almost universally polite. Vegas knows it relies on its visitors and in my view it looks after them pretty well

Blagger is right on. More people will complain than praise. Maybe when you are angry you have more adreline.

I agree that 7 nights in San Diego is a bit long. There are so many wonderful places in California that if you can spread it out a bit and visit other places -- maybe Santa Barbara or LA - that%26#39;s what I would do.

San Diego is a lovely city but not sure I would spend that long there.

As far as the Four Seasons, it is a lovely hotel. You will find that some people (especially those who don%26#39;t usually stay at higher end hotels) expect more than perfection for their money. Not sure what they were complaining about since I rarely read the TA reviews of hotels and restaurants.

What exactly are you looking for in a hotel? How much do you want to spend? I know that for us, if it is a vacation, we look for a nicer hotel than we look for if we are just passing through, taking our kids to college or visiting relatives who don%26#39;t have room at their home. Las Vegas is a vacation, the others are trips.

I also don%26#39;t put MGM and Luxor in the same category although others might. I prefer MGM by a long shot.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies.

What we are looking for in our hotels would be for the first leg of the Vegas stay..

Cental location.

Good clean rooms, linnen and bathrooms.

Access to good choice of food.

Mid range price.

For the second stay.

A bit of luxury.

Good rooms with nice touches.

Nice pool area

Maybe a spa.

Access to good %26#39;spoil yourself%26#39; food.

Price.....no issue.

For the first leg I would do Mirage or MGM (a little oe off Central strip but still good).

For the second leg, if money is no object, either Wynn or it%26#39;s new sister Encore or Palazzo. For the most central of all of the luxury hotels try Caesar%26#39;s (Augustus Tower) or Bellagio. They all have spas although I understand Caesar%26#39;s is the best.

';Price.....no issue'; doesn%26#39;t really help! There are numerous suites in Vegas hotels that cost several thousand dollars a night so you have to really suggest a ballpark figure.

If it really is no issue I would suggest the Hugh Hefner Sky Villa at the Palms. A bargain at $40k per night..... :-)

OK, price for the second stay.....£500 per night but that not written in stone !!

Blimey, £500 a night will get you a great room on the Strip. Wynn%26#39;s is a good suggestion as it%26#39;s new and quite smart, but it%26#39;s not very central. I%26#39;d have a look and see what £500 would get you at Bellagio, Caesars or Venetian and pick off that list
